Wild Wonder is a nature-based educational program for ages 3-10. It is an extracurricular class that aims to get kids out in nature and stimulate curiosity. It is not intended to be a comprehensive schooling solution. The curriculum covers a variety of topics, focusing on the natural habitats in our area, the five basic animal classes, plant studies, and elements of the natural world. You'll find our core curriculum topics discussed below.
Wonder Walks is an off-shoot of Wild Wonder for ages 1-3 that encourages toddlers to explore the wonders of nature. Our program promotes early learning and social development, fostering a love for nature through engaging activities and interactive storytelling. Young explorers will develop their curiosity, sensory skills, and physical coordination as we embark on a child-paced walk through the natural world. Each week, we will read a short book and then explore our surroundings together. We cover the same topics as Wild Wonder, but broken down in an age-appropriate, engaging way for toddlers.
Each unit is based on a specific natural habitat found in our area. We begin the unit by exploring the habitat generally -- observing its unique characteristics and comparing it to other habitats.
After our general exploration of the habitat, we learn about the creatures that live there. Over the course of the year, we cover the 5 main animal classes: mammal, bird, fish, reptile, and amphibian.
We continue our study of the habitat by examining the flora that grows there. This allows us to do a botany deep-dive on several plant species over the course of the program.
Our final section covers important topics about the systems and components of the natural world, such as the water cycle. This subject area focuses on the building blocks of nature and can be covered indoors in case of inclement weather.
